Everything You Need to Know Before Climbing Mount Teide

Reaching the summit of Mount Teide is an unforgettable experience, but the high altitude and mountain conditions mean preparation is essential.

Although the cable car takes you most of the way up, the final ascent requires walking along a steep, rocky mountain trail.

What to Wear and Bring

• Warm clothing: Temperatures at the summit can be significantly colder than at sea level, even during summer.
• Proper hiking shoes: Wear closed-toe hiking shoes with good grip. Sandals and unsuitable footwear are not permitted.
• Sun protection: Bring sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat. UV exposure is particularly strong at high altitude.
• Drinking water: Carry sufficient water to stay hydrated throughout the experience.
• Light snacks: Food is not included, so consider bringing something to eat.
• Camera or smartphone: The panoramic views are extraordinary, so make sure your battery is charged.

Fitness and Altitude

The upper cable car station is approximately 3,555 metres above sea level.

From there, the Telesforo Bravo trail leads to the summit at approximately 3,715 metres.

Although the trail is only around 690 metres long, it is classified as difficult because of the steep gradient, rocky terrain and high altitude. Allow approximately 40–45 minutes for the ascent, depending on your fitness and conditions. Web Tenerife

Important: The high altitude can affect breathing and physical performance. Visitors with heart conditions or other health concerns should seek medical advice before booking. Pregnant visitors and young children are subject to cable car and summit excursion restrictions. Volcano Teide

Summit Access and Permits

Access to Mount Teide's summit is restricted to protect the natural environment and manage visitor safety.

A valid permit is required to use the Telesforo Bravo trail leading to the peak.

Your excursion includes a summit access permit, subject to confirmation of availability for your selected date.

Weather Conditions

Weather on Mount Teide can change quickly.

Strong winds, snow, ice or other adverse conditions may result in the cable car closing or summit access being restricted.

Excursions may therefore be cancelled or rescheduled for safety reasons.

Check the latest weather conditions and cable car operating status before travelling.

During Your Visit

• Follow your official guide's instructions.
• Stay on designated walking trails.
• Avoid rushing during the final ascent.
• Take regular breaks if necessary.
• Respect the protected volcanic landscape.
• Do not remove rocks, plants or other natural materials.
• Inform your guide immediately if you experience dizziness, nausea, unusual breathlessness or other symptoms of altitude sickness.

For the most enjoyable experience, choose a clear day, dress in layers and take your time during the ascent.

The summit rewards visitors with some of the most spectacular views in the Canary Islands. On particularly clear days, you may even see neighbouring islands rising above the Atlantic Ocean.

Good to Know: Mount Teide is a protected natural environment, and access to the summit is carefully regulated. Your safety and the preservation of this extraordinary landscape always come first.

Important notes before publishing

I've corrected the mountain's height from the older figure of 3,718 metres to the commonly used modern measurement of 3,715 metres.

I've also avoided repeating the fixed cable car opening hours in your original description because operating schedules can change seasonally.

Before publishing, confirm with your excursion provider that VIP transportation, priority cable car admission and the summit permit are all included in the current package.
